interpretive events, educational programs and community involvement. Our purpose is to engage hostellers, families, school groups,
youth and elder groups in expanding their own understanding of the
world. Explore the local setting, meet others, foster international
understanding and have fun!

TRADITIONAL THANKSGIVING DINNER, SANBORN PARK HOSTEL, SARATOGA.
Another long tradition (yes, more than 25 years!) is the Thanksgiving Dinner served at 5 p.m. at the Sanborn Park Hostel, Saratoga. The menu is roast turkey and stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce, bakery rolls, green peas, yams, pumpkin pie, and soft drinks, all for just $8.00 and a non-perishable food donation for Second Harvest. You must make a reservation no later than 11 p.m. on Monday, November 19, by calling 408/741-0166.

The raising of giant pumpkins is fascinating, and the pumpkins are amazing, even featured on national television documentaries. We have our own local pumpkins grower in the person of Terry Stewart who will give us a wonderful program tonight. Bring any food you like for

LITTER CLEAN-UP ON HIGHWAY 9, SARATOGA.
Let's make Highway 9 clean and beautiful! Meet at the Sanborn Park Hostel at 9:30 to put on CalTrans hats and vests, then go to our roadway to pick up litter. We'll return by noon for lunch (provided) at the Hostel. Rain postpones for one week or even two. If in doubt, call the Hostel at 408/741-0166 between 7 and 9 a.m.

GOURMET DINNER NIGHT, SANTA CLARA.
We have a long tradition of December dinners of yummy "comfort food" from Brazil at Joao's Restaurant, 57 Washington Street, Santa Clara. (This is immediately north of Newhall where North Bascom becomes Washington, a few blocks from Highway 880.) We love feijoada, the black bean "stew" that is Brazil's national dish. Chicken and fish dinners are good too. Meet there at 6:30. $13.

Pasadena Heritage stages its "Craftsman Weekend" in October every year. Art and Sylvia Carroll show slides tonight of their trip to see beautiful homes and gardens in the Craftsman style (early 1900's) that is now enjoying a new surge of popularity. Pot-luck is at 6:30--bring

FOREST CONSERVATION DAYS, SANBORN COUNTY PARK, SARATOGA.
Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. you can find out all about the web of life, about trees and weather and animals and how we can care for our environment and use it wisely. The Society of American Foresters and the International Association for Arboricu1ture, together with Sanborn County Park, stage this annual event for school children during the week and for the general public on this weekend. It's fascinating and it's free. (There's a charge to park in the Sanborn Park lot, but park at the Hostel and walk a pleasant half mi1e--free parking and good exercise too.)
